Kriya Yoga

“Kriya” means “action” and refers to the conscious manipulation of energy through the astral channels of the body. Kriya is an ancient science. The results are repeatable and predictable. Kriya yoga has always promised that self-realization is very close, attainable within this lifetime. Because tantra accelerates one’s growth much faster than the more conservative Kriya paths, we expect many to reach enlightenment. This is a practice. You feel it work immediately but it requires consistent daily effort. The student should devote at least 30 minutes a day for best results. The more practice you do, the faster you will evolve.

Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga is a unique approach within the variety of Tantric paths. Ipsalu is distinguished by its attention to emotional flow and the skillfully designed sets of yogic techniques for safely activating your cosmic consciousness—kundalini.

Cosmic Cobra Breath

The capstone of the science of Kriya Yoga is the Cosmic Cobra Breath, a precious gift to humankind from Mahavatar Babaji. This ancient Breath technique was long held secret because of its great power. It prepares the mind and body for the safe, controlled movement of kundalini.

Kundalini is life force or consciousness, one manifestation of which is sexual energy. When it moves upward it enlightens you. In normal sex the energy flows downward to drain you. Cobra Breath reverses the flow of sexual energy, alchemically transmuting base desires into spiritual gold. The secret teachings of many spiritual traditions use kundalini energy to rejuvenate the body, empower the mind and access the soul. The Breath pulls Shakti (magnetic) energy into the spine, magnetizing the cerebrospinal fluid, allowing kundalini to move up the spine. As the brain bathes in this magnetized fluid, the nervous system is transformed, and you awaken to a new consciousness.

The ideal way to learn Cobra Breath is in a Level 1 weekend intensive. If that is not possible, it can be received by telephone through the TantraBliss Practicum. Click here. Cobra Breath is an oral tradition and can never be written.

There are four levels to Cobra Breath, each opening a certain energy channel and certain chakras. As long as these openings occur in the correct sequence, the process is very safe. Kundalini is dangerous only if you try to skip steps and activate it before mind and body are prepared.

Spiritual advancement goes hand in hand with awakening the chakras and Kundalini energy. The chakras are centers of psychic and spiritual power within the body, and Ipsalu awakens them in a gradual and safe process through the practice of Cobra Breath.

Kundalini is life force or consciousness, one manifestation of which is sexual energy. When it moves upward it enlightens you. In normal sex, the energy flows downward to drain you. The ancient teachings of Ipsalu Tantra use Kundalini energy to:

  • Rejuvenate the body
  • Release the mind of limiting beliefs
  • Access the soul

Level 1 Cobra Breath:

  • Awakens the Ajna Chakra (The Third Eye) and the Muladhara (The Root Chakra)
  • This is the first step in cultivating Witness Consciousness, or the ability to cut through illusions
  • Magnetizes the spine, allowing Shaki (Feminine or Earth energy) to rise and to draw in Shiva (masculine or Solar energy)

Level 2 Cobra Breath:

  • Awakens the lower three chakras, allowing us to resolve issues of fear, sadness and anger
  • Balances the male and female currents within the body

Level 3 Cobra Breath:

  • Awakens the heart and throat chakras, helping us live from our heart and speak our truth
  • Blends the male and female currents and draws it up the spine as Kundalini energy.

Level 4 Cobra Breath:

  • Awakens the crown chakra
  • Unites the microcosm and the macrocosm, enabling us to experience Oneness with the Universe

As long as these energy centers and channels are opened in the correct sequence, Kundalini awakening is very safe. Kundalini is only dangerous if one tries to skip steps, and if it is activated before the mind and body are prepared.

Emotional Release

Powerful yogic methods were traditionally practiced in an ashram, under the close supervision of a guru. Our challenge today is to maintain the practice while continuing our lives. The increased energy resulting from these practices activates repressed emotions, which must be experienced, expressed and released. In the West, methods have been developed to clear emotional residue. Ipsalu has refined this process to an art. We use methods of various intensities from subtle contemplative practices to all-out catharsis, but always with Witness Consciousness.

As you examine your intentions that aren’t being realized, you discover, invariably, some limiting belief standing in the way, something about your inability, unworthiness or unwillingness. That belief is glued in place by the emotions present when the belief was adopted – the sadness, fear or anger surrounding some pivotal event. Emotional release is an integral part of learning to manifest your heart’s desire.
